Everyone who has studied marketing or been exposed to marketing will know that Packaging is an integral element of a Product.Though most of the companies take it lightly there are many companies that understand the importance of packaging.
As far as i know (I could be wrong) there are some product where the packaging almost forms the identity of the product or the brand. Immediately one product that comes to my mind is perfumes.Look at the companies that make perfume - So much attention goes into the design of the bottle. For example if there is perfume targeted at men it is more likely to have a shape that symbolizes manliness,It could be the shape in the form of Penis or it could be something like dumbbell in a way symbolizing muscle.Same way if you look at some of women's perfume it is in the shape of heart or in the form of bust of a women.
Next example is the liquor brands with its unique bottle shapes and even the tint of the glass is unique in certain case. You will never be able to miss a Jack Daniels or Absolut Vodka even if you see a whole rack of different brands of liquor. And they have persisted with the same shape for probably more than 100 years.
Backhome as well we have some really good examples. Fastrack brand has always been quirky as they target youth. If you look at their packaging for watches its always been creative.Earlier it used to be TIN boxes and now they come in the shape of Soft Drink Can.Very unique when it comes to packing of watch and it does live up to the expectation as a youthful brand.
Look at the packaging of Paper Boat one of my favourites when it comes to Indian brands.Their packaging is as unique as its flavours. The package is very difficult to miss even you have a sea of soft drinks in the aisle of a shopping mall.
That is how companies becomes extra ordinary by focussing on things which are not taken very seriously. And packaging is one of them. And the ones which doesn't are on its way to obscurity or probably needs a generous amount of money to keep the recall value.
